Campers We Adore You!

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Summer 2009 has officially come to an end and it was one of the best summers in Double H history. We served so many amazing kids throughout our seven sessions and made countless new friends. It was very sad to wave goodbye to our last bus filled with campers. It is difficult to express in words the magic that occurs each day at Double H. Whether it’s a first time camper who fell in love with camp or a camper who graduated and had to say some tearful goodbyes - every moment at Double H was unforgettable.

Our summer staff and volunteers worked long hours, sang crazy cheers throughout every meal and offered numerous hugs to homesick campers. Our 2009 staff impressed everyone - parents, social workers, campers, and administrators. We are extremely proud of Team ‘09 and their ability to care for such extraordinary children. Watching staff pack up and leave was just as difficult as saying goodbye to our campers; however, knowing that they will take the magic of Double H out into the “real world” is always reassuring.

Now that summer is almost over it is very quiet along the banks of Lake Vanare, the cheering, laughter, and sounds of happy children has settled. There is a chill in the night air and it is obvious that fall is right around the corner which brings us to our Family Fall Weekends and another round of kids and families who will experience the magic of Double H. We are gearing up for some wonderful fall weather and some more of those amazing Double H memories that last a lifetime.

To Team ‘09- Thank you, we are so very proud. See you in 2010!

Muskrats Shine in 2009!

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Summer is flying by and our campers are having an amazing time. So far we have had 5 sessions of camp and each one has been a truly magical experience. We have welcomed in groups of children from Ohio, Philadelphia, Montreal, New York City and Rochester. Session after session our counselors and volunteers provide our kids with the experience of a lifetime. Our campers have done everything from catch the biggest fish in the lake (Big Will), made tie dye t-shirts, taught their counselors new dance moves and made lifelong friendships with the counselors and cabin mates. It is amazing to watch how quickly a diverse group of children all with different backgrounds and life experiences come together to have fun and just be kids.

A favorite camper story involves two Muskrat campers at the Ropes Course, the Muskrats are our youngest boys at Double H and are full of energy! Camper Regan in the muskrat cabin has been coming to camp for several years and is a camper that looks forward to camp all year. He arrived at camp and immediately became friends with all the boys in his cabin by introducing himself and saying that it was nice to see them. Regan is a very small child but has a ton of energy and loves to cheer! He did the “we’ve got spirit” cheer in the dining hall about 70 times.

Anyway the Muskrats were at the Ropes Course on the very last day of camp and camper Brandon was on the zip line platform and was a little nervous. Regan and the rest of the Muskrats started cheering on Brandon by shouting Give me an M, Give me a U, Give me a S etc.. Then counselor Kansas shouted “What does that spell” and Regan jumped into the air and shouted BRANDON! The rest of the Muskrats then all started running around and jumping while yelling Brandon. This never ending cheering and spirit in the Muskrat cabin helped Brandon get down the zip line and provided the counselors with a moment they won’t forget!

Double H is full of moments and stories and we appreciate all that is done to support us throughout the summer and the rest of the year! Continue to look for more blog entries about our Summer up at Double H.

Double H Ranch Text-to-Pledge

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

The Double H Ranch’s 18th Annual Gala is just two weeks away and we are dusting off our cowboy boots for our Western themed evening of fun and excitement at the Great Escape Splashwater Kingdom on Friday, August 14th.

This year we are introducing a new component to the program – text-to-pledge. Text-to-pledge offers donors a way to pledge any desired amount using a handheld device. All copy within the text will be broadcast at the Gala in real time. Even if you are not able to attend the event you can simply text 646-541-3939 to make your pledge! (The number will only work on the 14th).

So set a reminder on your Blackberry and pull out your cell phone on August 14th and give a gift towards the campers and their families who attend the Double H Ranch.

For more information on text-to-pledge or the Double H Ranch Gala please contact Robin DeMattos at 518-696-5921 ext. 228

Spread the word to your friends & family!
