General Information About Our Camp In The Adirondacks

Location

The Double H Ranch facility is located in Lake Luzerne, New York, in the beautiful Adirondack Park. We are approximately 215 miles north of New York City, NY, approximately 220 miles from Boston, MA, and approximately 174 miles south of Montreal, Quebec.

Children and Families:

The Double H Ranch, founded by Charles R. Wood and Paul Newman, serves over 1,500 children and family members throughout the year. Summer Residential Camp provides 7 sessions of camp to children ages 6-16. We also offer a week of camp dedicated to our Alumni campers ages 17-21. Our Adaptive Winter Sports Program serves 30 students on each of its twenty-eight ski days and 60 family members during five Family Sleepover Weekends. In the spring and fall we host 15 Family-Based Programs, serving over 600 children and family members.

Volunteers

On average, our volunteers contribute $1 million worth of service to the Double H Ranch each year. Every year over 1,000 volunteers give their time in support of the Double H Ranch approximately 700 volunteers support our Summer Residential Camp, including medical volunteers who support Paul’s Body Shop and session and general volunteers who assist in programs and camp activities. In the spring and fall, 50 volunteers support our Family-Based Programs and hundreds of community volunteers dedicate their time to readying the facility for the next season. In the wintertime, 200 volunteer ski instructors, National Ski Patrol and lodge hosts give their time to our winter sports enthusiasts and their families. Throughout the year, numerous volunteers assist with special events/fundraising and administrative tasks.

Safety and Qualifications

The focus of our year-round programming is safety, fun and learning.

The Double H Ranch is a member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, a member of the American Camp Association and a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America.

Association of Hole in the Wall CampsThe Association of Hole in the Wall Camps is a not-for-profit umbrella organization set up to serve existing Hole in the Wall Camps as well as camps in formation. Their mission is to extend the magical Hole in the Wall Camp experience to as many children with serious illnesses and life-threatening conditions as possible.
American Camp Association - ACAThe Double H Ranch is an ACA-Accredited member of the American Camp Association. The American Camp Association collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at our camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.

Professional Ski Instructors of America - PSIAThe Double H Ranch is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA). PSIA is a group of full-time and part-time instructors dedicated to reaching the highest levels of performance within the snow sports industry. Membership represents increased professionalism and rewarding personal achievement. PSIA instructors are recognized and respected by both the public and people within the industry. As a PSIA member, you can get involved in a variety of disciplines, including alpine, Nordic, snowboard, and adaptive instruction.
