Kids in Action

All to Benefit the Children of the Double H

Service Learning in school curriculum is becoming a mandate in many school districts. It can empower students to make a difference in the lives of others while enhancing their own education. As schools explore opportunities that instill values and character in their students finding a unique and creative solution can be difficult.-  The Double H Ranch has your answer!

The opportunities on how to help are endless and proceeds directly benefit the campers of the Double H Ranch. Click here to see how schools, students and kids of all ages can help our amazing campers.  Explore our Read for the Ranch section to learn how school age children can support the Double H Ranch by READING.  Through increasing awareness and funds for the Double H, students are taught the value of giving back to a great cause while learning the importance of teamwork, creativity, school spirit and leadership. The hands-on experience will teach students valuable life lessons and build school spirit along with forming new relationships with their peers and advisors.

Read for the Ranch

A Good Deed with Every Book You Read!!!

Character Education in school curriculum is becoming a mandate in many school districts. Service Learning is a form of project-based learning in which academic goals are accomplished through community service. For the past several years the Double H Ranch has been working with schools across New York to encourage youngsters to make a difference by READING!

As educators continue to turn their attention to character building Read for the Ranch is a perfect fit. The program is extremely flexible and schools are encouraged to design a program that meets their needs.

Program Highlights –

  • A Ranch representative may visit the school to attend a kick off assembly and provide necessary materials.
  • Each participating student will receive a Certificate of Appreciation.
  • Based on funds raised, schools may be invited to the Double H Ranch for a luncheon and tour to see first hand how they are helping to enhance the lives of our campers.

The Double H Ranch welcomes schools and individuals to participate and anyone interested in further information please email our Development and Communications Coordinator or call 518-696-5921 ext. 239.

Teacher testimonials:

Eileen Pickett Kivlin, Mechanicville Elementary, Mechanicville, NY
“I think the best thing about the Read for the Ranch program is that it is not your typical fundraising project.  The program promotes making reading an integral part of our everyday home activities.  At the same time our students were so excited to be helping children who are facing life threatening illnesses.”

Krista Harris, St. Ignatius Loyola School, Hicksville, NY
“It’s a win-win program for our students, teachers, and parents as our kids are encouraged to read and at the same time learn about fundraising and about children who, without their help, would not have an opportunity to experience camp, something they might otherwise take for granted.”

Hadley-Luzerne Elementary, Lake Luzerne, NY
“We reach out to our high-school and retired teacher constituents to help sponsor our readers, making it a real community event. As the kids are reading they are also learning, at a young age, that they can make a difference in someone else’s life.”

Lisa LaBrecque, Caroline Street School, Saratoga Springs, NY
“Highlights of our program were our assembly, the bulletin board with tallies each week to encourage healthy competition, Fox 23 News Day Break co-anchor reading with the Kindergartners and the student’s excitement about reading.”

Jessica Smatko, Fort Edward Elementary, Fort Edward, NY
“The best thing about the Read for the Ranch program…well that’s hard. There are so many wonderful things that I could say.”
