Ski Lodge Host Information

As a Ski Lodge Host, you will be the “Ranch Representative” assisting Skiers, Instructors, National Ski Patrol and other Volunteers throughout the course of the day.  You will also be responsible for the condition of the Lodge as well as the presentation of the refreshments we will be serving.  As a Ski Lodge Host, your main priority will be to make the Lodge an inviting, exciting, fun place to be.  (The children may need some down time during the day to rest and warm up, especially if it is a cold or inclement day, and we will need you to be available to help with some quiet activities.)  We will be hosting a Lodge Volunteer Training Day to make sure that you are familiarized with the Ranch and the aspects with which we need your help.

Below is the outline of a typical day here at the Ranch.  The Adaptive Winter Sports Program begins with the children hitting the slopes at 10:00am and ends at 3:00pm with a lunch break from Noon to 1:00 pm.  We will need a Host from 9:00am to 3:30pm to allow for time to both prepare and cleanup.  Thank you so much for your volunteer spirit in considering the offer of your time and energy!

Volunteer Duties:

  Upon arrival (9am):

The door to the Ski Lodge will be unlocked, please make sure that the POWER is on.

CHECK that the condiments are stocked and in order.  Coffee will be served from pump-pots.

GREET families and direct them to both parking and the Ski Lodge/sign in table.

  Throughout the day:

SOUP & SNACKS:  We provide soup and snacks.  The skiers will be bringing in their own lunches.  All food supplies not brought in by the families and/or volunteers will be in the kitchen.  You will be responsible for heating up canned soup and making sure that the snacks and paper products (including in the restroom) are well stocked throughout the day.  Please make sure that everything is ready by about 11:30am as that is when most people will start returning to the lodge.

ARTS & CRAFTS:  "Setup" craft area. Help with craft projects such as coloring and drawing, playing board games or cards.  For any children that aren’t skiing (siblings, tired skiers) offer them paper and crayons, markers or any other crafting supplies that will be in a clear blue box by the Payphone.

PHONE: We will need you to answer the Payphone here in the Ski Lodge with “Good morning, Double H Ranch Adaptive Winter Sports Program, __________ speaking.”  There is a second phone, located behind Ski Patrol partition, that we will only need you to answer until approximately 10am.

MAINTENANCE OF AREA:  Please clean up the area after lunch while the skiers are back on the slopes.

PHOTOS: There will be disposable cameras. Feel free to take pictures - we will develop them and put them in our photo albums!

  Closing the Lodge:

RINSE coffee pots.

VACUUM.

CLEAN tables & bathrooms.

RESTOCK paper products (kitchen and bathroom supplies).

TRASH: Please bag all the garbage and reline the cans with bags from the kitchen.

  In case of Emergency:

National Ski Patrol will be on hand. If an ambulance is needed, call 911 and let the parents take over. (Parents are required to stay on site while their children are skiing with us. In addition, parents are responsible for administering any medications or medical procedures required by the child.)

Thanks again for inquiring about volunteering with us in the Ski Lodge!
