On July 16 2020, we were informed by Blackbaud Inc., the software company that we use to store and record our donor information in the cloud, that in May of this year Blackbaud discovered and stopped a ransomware attack. According to Blackbaud, after discovering the attempted attack, Blackbaud’s Cyber Security team—together with independent forensics experts and law enforcement—successfully prevented the cybercriminal from blocking their system access and fully encrypting files; and ultimately expelled them from their system.
Although Blackbaud assured affected organizations that encrypted data such as bank and credit card information were not accessed during this attack, it is possible that other donor data such as your name, contact, and demographic information as well as details of relationships to Camp – including gift dates and amounts – may have been exposed. Based on the nature of the incident and third-party investigation (including by law enforcement), Blackbaud shared that they have no reason to believe that any data went beyond the cybercriminal, was or will be misused; or will be disseminated or made public.
Out of an abundance of care and caution, we wanted to make you aware of this unfortunate situation. Blackbaud is considered the gold standard for fundraising software and provides service to over 45,000 Non-Profits around the world and Double H Ranch is just one of many of their clients affected by this attack. Therefore, you may have received or will receive notification from other organizations regarding this matter. Please note that each organization’s situation is unique based on the type of Blackbaud products they use and potential data exposure.
We do not believe there is a need for you to take any action at this time. As a best practice, we recommend that you remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity, increased solicitations for donations from other organizations, or suspected identity theft to the proper authorities. We continue to investigate this incident and receive information from Blackbaud. If any sensitive personal information beyond that identified above may have been exposed, we will notify potentially impacted individuals directly.
The Double H Ranch understands the importance of your generosity and we do not take for granted the trust you put in us to safeguard your information. We will continue to work with Blackbaud, Inc. and our internal IT team to take the necessary steps to continually monitor and review our systems.
