Volunteer Voices: Meet Linda

Prior to moving to the area, sixteen years ago, I had previously volunteered at Barretstown (Ireland) and was very pleased and surprised to find a sister camp, Double H Ranch, right here in my own back yard.

Since that time, I have volunteered in all seasons and areas which include: summer camp, arts & crafts, barn, lodge host, family weekends, and most recently with Camp On-The-Go (HOP).

My volunteer experience has been rewarding in so many ways. Working with the children has proven to be both fulfilling and enlightening for me. Seeing these kids, and especially their families, has opened my eyes to the many challenges and accomplishments that are faced daily by these wonderful, caring and loving people.

Returning to Camp is akin to returning to family.  The staff, administration, counselors, other volunteers and especially the children and their families have become an important part of my everyday life. Quite often the most memorable moments come following a simple conversation with a child or parent.

To me the most impressive part of volunteering at Double H, lies in the fact that no matter what you do, or in what capacity you do it, you always receive a kind word and a sincere THANK YOU!

  1. Linda was the very first person I worked with as a Lodge Host during the winter. Linda never stopped all day. She showed me everything we should be doing with a kind word for everyone. She is a very special lady and I feel very fortunate to be able to volunteer with Linda!
