Dr. Dennis McKenna elected to Board of Directors

The Double H Ranch is pleased to announce the appointment of Dennis McKenna, MD, to its Board of Directors.

“On behalf of the Double H Ranch Board of Directors, we are privileged to welcome and recognize the appointment of our newest Board member, Dr. Dennis McKenna,” says Max Yurenda, CEO. “Dr. McKenna is no stranger to the Double H Ranch as he has volunteered in our programs for several years and serves on our Medical Advisory Board. Dr. McKenna serves as the Senior Vice President Medical Affairs at Albany Medical Center and this is another wonderful example of the special partnership that we share with the hospital.”

FourSquareDr. McKenna will serve as a primary point of contact between the Albany Medical Center and the Double H Ranch. In working closely with the Medical Advisory Board, Dr. McKenna will be making formal recommendations to the Board of Directors in regard to the following areas. If new diagnoses and/or medical partnerships are being considered and if there are changes to policies that impact our delivery of care to our children and families. Dr. McKenna will be formally presenting our mission and the medical component of our program at various events throughout the year. In the event of a medically related crisis at the Double H Ranch, Dr. McKenna will serve as the medical expert and work closely with the CEO, spokesperson for the Double H Ranch in addressing the media and community.

Dennis McKenna was born in Albany, New York and has spent the majority of his time in the Capital District, having grown up in Bethlehem, NY and graduating from Christian Brothers Academy. He went onto Cornell University and then to Albany Medical College, where he was fortunate to be taught by former Double H Ranch Board Member Dr. Anthony Tartaglia. Upon graduation from medical school he served on Active Duty for five years as Navy physician, including deployments with the US Marines, and then proudly served as reservist for the next two decades.  In 1997, McKenna returned to Albany to train as an emergency department physician, a role he continues in to this day at Albany Medical Center. In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. McKenna also serves as Chief Medical Officer for the hospital.

Dennis is married to Karen (Deeley) McKenna, from Voorheesville, who is an emergency department nurse leader at St. Peter’s Hospital. The McKennas have four children, Kate (12), Jack (11), Maggie (9), and Matty J (6).
