The goal of Double H Ranch’s Outreach Program is to provide children and families living with serious illnesses opportunities for connection, support, and fun by bringing the magic of camp into the community. The program aims to meet participants wherever they are. Outreach hospital visits and community events are designed to give children the power of choice in activities, provide respite for caregivers and family members, and create moments that build relationships and foster belonging.
In 2022, the Outreach Program made a successful return, reuniting with kids and families across many different settings. We were grateful for the opportunities to share camp in hospital playrooms, at local farmer’s markets and sporting events, and at new Double H events like Spring in the City and the Alumni Prom. In the year ahead, we are committed to continually increasing access to camp by adding new hospitals and health partners to our visits, and creating events to meet the needs of campers, caregivers, and families. Check out our list of dates and partners to see when we’ll be in your neck of the woods!
2023 Program Dates
The Outreach Program is excited to be hosting the 2nd Annual Alumni Prom at Double H Ranch this September. Spend the afternoon participating in fun workshops, like cooking and flower arranging, and returning to your favorite camp activity areas, like archery, arts & crafts, and the waterfront. Then enjoy a 1920’s themed evening with dinner and dancing. We hope you’ll join us this fall to reconnect with friends and make new camp memories together!
SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, September 23, 2023
TIME: From 10:00am-8:00pm
PLACE: Double H Ranch
THEME: A Night of Glitz and Glamour – bring your 1920s themed bowties, headbands, fringe, and flare!
Eligibility
We are excited to welcome back campers who….
-
- Are aged 21 years and older
- Have previously participated in a summer, fall, winter, or spring program at Double H Ranch
- Are vaccinated against COVID-19, either a full primary series OR one dose of the bivalent booster
All campers may also bring a plus one – friend, family member, or date! If you would like to bring more than one guest, please reach out to Corinne Lafayette at clafayette@doublehranch.org.
Registration
To attend Prom, please submit the online registration form by September 15, 2023.
Attire
There is no dress code for Prom! We recommend wearing something comfortable during the day and whatever makes you feel confident for the evening events. All attendees will have access to the Double H costume room and a clothing library of Prom attire.
If you have gently used or new Prom attire to contribute to the clothing library, we are currently accepting donations of dresses, suit pieces, ties, purses, jewelry, and more! Please reach out to Corinne Lafayette, Family Outreach Coordinator at clafayette@doublehranch.org to coordinate donations.
Lodging
Attendees will be given a camper room for day-use during Prom. Attendees may use rooms as a place to store belongings, rest, and get ready for the evening events.
Double H is unable to provide any overnight lodging. To help those who are traveling to the event, we have compiled a list of local hotels that may provide discounts for Double H participants. Please register for the event to receive a copy of the listed hotels.
Outreach Hospital & Health Partners
We are proud to currently serve hospitals and health partners in New York and New Hampshire. In our hope to expand access to camp, we are continually looking to add partners across New England.
- Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center (Albany, NY)
- Pathways Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (Schenectady, NY)
- Golisano Children’s Hospital (Rochester, NY)
- Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (Bronx, NY)
- Brookdale Children’s Hospital (Brooklyn, NY)
- Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (Lebanon, NH)
The Outreach Program collaborates with hospital staff to provide an array of activities that reflect traditional camp, like slime science experiments, friendship bracelet and craft making, lasso lessons, or cheers and games. In playroom visits, children can socialize with peers and Double H staff and volunteers. For bedside visits, we bring the fun directly to their rooms. Outreach programming allows children to take the lead by using the “challenge by choice” approach — this simple phrase grants everyone control of their own experience by letting them choose how and when they feel comfortable to participate.

Volunteers
The Outreach program would not be possible without the contributions of dedicated volunteers…
- Hospital Visit Volunteer: Help bring activities to children at our hospital partners.
- Event Volunteer: Join the team that helps put on events like Spring in the City or Alumni Prom.
