Camp is a place of joy. Where life is best, being present and finding beauty in every moment. Along the way, there are camp legends who shape our community and teach us how to see what matters most. For so many, when you think of camp and who made you feel seen, you think of Pat and Dom.
It is with heavy hearts, and immense gratitude, that we share the passing of our beloved volunteer, Dom Martino.
Dom was the truest definition of a Double H legend. Alongside his wife, Nurse Pat, he began volunteering in 1998 as a cabin counselor and went on to be mainstay at camp in every season. Whether catching at the ropes course, setting tables in the dining hall, tending campfires, or hosting the liveliest card games, Dom positively impacted thousands of campers, staff, and volunteers.
What made Dom extraordinary wasn’t just what he did, but how he made you feel. He never missed an opportunity to make a child feel seen, included, and celebrated. He was there for the quiet moments, the joyful moments, and life’s biggest milestones – from games and weddings to concerts and talent shows. He showed up exactly how people needed him, with a good story, a warm smile, and endless time to listen.
He was so present that he was probably the only Volunteer of the Year recipient who missed most volunteer meetings. ❤️
Dom lived with deep gratitude for the life he had and often reminded us how lucky he felt. His legacy lives on in every campfire, every cabin, every game of Garbage, and every act of kindness shared at camp.
Camp is beautiful chaos. The days move quickly, but Dom taught us that moments filled with laughter, listening, and connection are worth slowing down for. Those are the ones that matter most. In his honor, may we always make room at the table for everyone to join, remember that “sharing is caring,” and take the time to step into a camper’s world. If we do, we will all see the world a little brighter.
Dom, we adore you, place in our hearts for you, how we love you. Thank you for showing us how to find joy.
