Volunteer for Spring & Fall Weekends

Fall & Spring Weekends hold a special place in our mission at Double H Ranch. During family programs, the schedule tends to move a little slower and the meaning of camp sinks in a little deeper as campers and their families enjoy the magic of Double H together. These weekends also present a chance for Double H to host special community partners, like Camp Comfort from Glens Falls Hospital and the incredible women of the Bravehearts organization.

Family Pals

Description:

Family Pals are paired with campers and their families to act as a counselor throughout the weekend. They accompany participants at activity areas and during meal times, help guide them through the daily schedule, and provide general assistance when needed.

Requirements:

At least 18 years of age.
Prior experience or interest in working with children.
Complete required e-learning courses and onsite training upon arrival.

Accommodations:

Residential – Family Pals are provided onsite housing and meals during the weekend program.

Archery Activity Volunteers

Description:

Archery Activity Volunteers help ensure a safe environment at our archery range program area. Volunteers will set up and take down supplies, demonstrate safe practices for participants, and oversee activities at the program area. Shifts range from 3-4 hours.

Requirements:

At least 16 years of age.
Prior experience or interest in working with children.
Prior archery range experience.
Certification in Archery Instruction.
Complete required e-learning courses and onsite training upon arrival.

Accommodations:

Non-Residential – Archery Activity Volunteers commute to and from camp for shifts during weekend programs. Meals are provided during volunteer shifts.

Barn Activity Volunteers

Description:

Barn Activity Volunteers help ensure a safe environment at our barn program area by facilitating activities like horseback riding, feeding goats and donkeys, small animal interactions, and more. Shifts range from 3-4 hours at a time.

Requirements:

At least 16 years of age.
Prior experience or interest in working with children.
Prior barn, horse, or small animal experience preferred.
Complete required e-learning courses and onsite training upon arrival.

Accommodations:

Non-Residential – Barn Activity Volunteers commute to and from camp for shifts during weekend programs. Meals are provided during volunteer shifts.

General Activity Volunteers

Description:

General Activity Volunteers assist in facilitating activities at Arts & Crafts, Discovery (science), Team Adventure (sports & team building), Outdoor Extreme (nature), and the Waterfront areas. Includes set-up and clean up of materials, assisting campers and family members, and facilitating activities. Shifts range from 3-4 hours.

Volunteers will be assigned to activity areas based on experience and interest to the best of our ability.

Requirements:

At least 16 years of age.
Prior experience or interest in working with children.
Complete required e-learning courses and onsite training upon arrival.

Accommodations:

Non-Residential – General Activity Volunteers commute to and from camp for shifts during weekend programs. Meals are provided during volunteer shifts.

Lifeguard Activity Volunteers

Description:

Lifeguard Volunteers help ensure a safe environment at our aquatics program areas by supervising swimming at the indoor pool or fishing and boating activities at the waterfront. Shifts range from 3-4 hours at a time.

Requirements:

At least 16 years of age.
Prior experience or interest in working with children.
Prior lifeguarding experience.
American Red Cross Lifeguard & CPR certifications.
Complete required e-learning courses and onsite training upon arrival.

Accommodations:

Non-Residential – Lifeguard Volunteers commute to and from camp for shifts during weekend programs. Meals are provided during volunteer shifts.

Ropes Activity Volunteers

Description:

Ropes Activity Volunteers assist Double H staff in operating our ropes course program area. Volunteers will help with set up and take down of the course, sizing harnesses and helmets for campers, and managing participants. Shifts range from 3-4 hours at a time.

Requirements:

At least 16 years of age.
Prior experience or interest in working with children.
Prior ropes course or climbing experience.
Complete required e-learning courses and onsite training upon arrival.

Gift Shop Volunteer

Description:

Gift Shop Volunteers run the retail shop at Double H. Volunteers are responsible for processing purchases, keeping stock organized and presentable, and re-stocking items as necessary. Volunteers deliver excellent customer service for families, staff, and volunteers during the final day of each session.

Requirements:

At least 18 years of age.
Complete required e-learning courses and onsite training upon arrival.

Non-Residential – Gift Shop Volunteers are non-residential positions. Volunteers must have their own transportation to and from camp for shifts.

Office Helpers

Description:

Office helpers assist year-round staff with the preparation of camper materials, nametags, welcome packets, scanning, filing, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements:

At least 16 years of age.

Therapy Animal Volunteers

Description:

Certified therapy animals and their handlers support weekend programs by visiting campers and families throughout the day.

Requirements:

Animals must be certified therapy animals.
Handlers must be at least 18 years of age.
Handlers complete e-learning courses.

Accommodations:

Non-Residential – Therapy Animals are non-residential positions. Meals are provided for handlers during volunteer shifts.

Volunteer Drivers

Description:

Volunteer Drivers support summer camp by providing scheduled transportation for campers, volunteers, and staff throughout the season. Drivers utilize Double H vehicles to bring others between camp and various public transit hubs, like the Albany train and bus stations.

Requirements:

At least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Complete e-learning courses and a driver’s training course.

Accommodations:

Non-Residential – Volunteer Drivers are non-residential positions. Volunteers must have their own transportation to and from camp for shifts.

Weekend Nurse

Description:

Weekend Nurses are vital to the safe fun of weekend programs. They provide general oversight for participants, administering care as needed in first-aid and emergent situations. Families of Weekend Nurses are eligible to apply to attend camp during the weekend program.

Requirements:

Interest in working with children and families.
All Medical Volunteers must be professionally licensed to practice in New York State.
Have previously been a staff or volunteer nurse for a Summer Camp Session at Double H.

Accommodations:

Residential – Weekend Nurses are provided onsite housing and meals during weekend programs.

Training

Spring & fall volunteer training consists of online and in-person training. Depending on your role in the program, courses will cover everything you need to prepare…

E-Learning: Complete modules about Double H core values, volunteer responsibilities, and more.
Orientation: Residential volunteers will have an orientation on the afternoon of their arrival at camp for the weekend. Double H staff will review topics like the program schedule, camper and family needs, and volunteer expectations before the program begins.
