Capital Campaign

For 30 Years, the Double H Ranch has provided outdoor Adirondack Adventures for Children with Serious Illnesses.

During that time, over 80,000 children with cancer, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, neuro-muscular impairments, and other childhood diseases have visited this safe place, where health challenges do not define them. A place where they do not feel alone, and they are able to be the people they want to be without judgement or special treatment. As one of our incredibly wise campers shared, “Camp is a place that heals your heart.”

In celebration of 30 years, the Double H Ranch has embarked on a Capital Campaign to secure funding to ensure a continued experience of excellence for children and families dealing with the difficult challenges of having a medical diagnosis that requires so much time to be spent in hospitals and physicians’ offices.

The Campaign will support a new Circle H Residential Lodge to house staff and volunteers, an adaptive playground, a Camp-A-Theater, and an expansion of the outdoor pavilion.

Circle H Residential Lodge

$4,083,179

Total demolition and reconstruction of the Circle H Cabin.

The current Circle H Cabin has been renovated throughout the camp’s 30-year history, but has now moved beyond a state of being able to be maintained and repaired. With guidance from our facilities committee, board of directors, professional architects, and builders, the cabin has been identified for demolition and plans are underway to build a new Residential Cabin. The new building will have a kitchenette, laundry, and common rooms for meeting and gathering. The improved space will provide our counselors and volunteers a place to recharge and rest, helping them to be the best they can be for our campers.

The new cabin will:

  • Offer year-round housing
  • Build program capacity
  • Enhance energy efficiency
  • Provide increased storage

Adaptive Playground

$600,000

A playground customized to the needs of our campers.

Customized to the needs of our campers from KOMPAN’s Playground Equipment Company, elements will include graduated challenges keeping the play fun, adventurous, and exciting. Free playtime for children of all abilities provides an opportunity for improved physical, cognitive, creative, and social development. The playground is a great tool for children to explore and learn about the world while helping to build key life skills, friendships, and independence.

Camp-A-Theater

$500,000

Outdoor amphitheater-style space located at the heart of camp.

Now more than ever, there is a need for all children to have safe outdoor space for play and for the development of life skills. Being in the great outdoors has a great impact on the physical and mental health of children. The Camp-A-Theater, located in the heart of camp, will provide a large, outdoor gathering
space for campers to congregate for morning assembly, talent shows, dances and presentations, as well as providing training space for our counselors to gather. The “RayMax Camp-A-Theater” will be named in honor of Max Yurenda, founding CEO, and Dr. Ray Walsh, founding volunteer physician.

Pavilion Expansion

$101,043

Expanding the existing pavilion to accommodate larger outdoor camp gatherings.

The current outdoor pavilion is a favorite destination for our campers. They enjoy time in the pavilion for
meals, cabin gatherings, and activities. We have outgrown our current needs and plan to double the size of the existing pavilion.
